Advanced options for links, sharing, beacons and semantic tags
Steps
To reach it, open your template in the editor and expand Advanced in the section menu. It contains Linked Apps, Sharing, Beacons, Localization and Semantic Tags. Pass languages and localization covers Localization.
Linked apps
Under Linked Apps you associate your own mobile apps with the pass. Pass holders then jump from the pass straight to your app or to its store page.
- Associated iOS App. Enter the App Store Identifier, one or more Adam IDs separated by commas. You can also enter an App Launch URL. iOS opens this URL when the pass holder launches the app from the pass.
- Associated Android App. Enter the Play Store Identifier, for example
com.example.myapp, and a Button Label for the link on the pass.
Sharing
Under Sharing you find the Hide Share Button toggle. Enable it and the pass no longer shows the button that lets a pass holder share the pass. Use this for personalized or paid passes that nobody should forward.
Beacons
iBeacons are Bluetooth Low Energy transmitters that work like a lighthouse. The beacon sends a signal. As soon as a phone with your pass recognizes it, the lock screen shows the message you defined. This lets you notify pass holders with much finer precision than GPS locations allow, for example at a specific counter or entrance.
Under Beacons you add up to 10 iBeacons. For each beacon you specify four things.
- a name,
- the beacon's UUID, which the editor validates for format,
- optional Major and Minor values from 0 to 65535,
- the relevant text that appears on the lock screen.
Semantic tags
Semantic tags give Apple Wallet structured information about your pass, for example the venue name, event start time, seat details or flight numbers. iOS uses them for richer system integrations. Some enhanced layouts like the poster event ticket require specific tags.
Under Semantic Tags you choose from 107 tags organized in categories. The categories are Departure, Destination, Flight, Transit, Seat, Passenger, Event, Venue, Sports, Entertainment, Membership, Financial, Time, Security, Connectivity and General.
- Use the search or the category and pass type filters to find a tag. Tags marked Required or Recommended matter for the selected pass type and enhanced layouts.
- Pick a value from the tag's list, or select Enter a custom value or placeholder to type a value.
{placeholders}from additional properties work here too.
The editor validates values where a standard applies. It checks IANA time zones, ISO 4217 currency codes, IATA airline, airport and flight codes, and latitude and longitude ranges. Invalid values block saving with the message Some semantic tag values are invalid: … The template can't be saved until they're fixed or replaced with a placeholder.
The section also shows guidance texts for common scenarios such as transit tickets, air boarding passes, enhanced event tickets and store cards.
