utm tracking parameters

Passcreator has native support for utm tracking parameters, the campaign parameters commonly used with analytics tools like Google Analytics or Adobe Analytics. Attach them to your pass download URLs and Passcreator stores them on the pass. This shows you where your downloads came from.

Steps

How it works

  1. Attach utm parameters to a pass download URL as GET parameters. A standard download page URL looks like https://app.passcreator.com/p/1234567. With tracking parameters it becomes https://app.passcreator.com/p/1234567?utm_campaign=fall2023&utm_source=googleads.
  2. As soon as a user accesses the URL for the first time, Passcreator recognizes the parameters and saves them as additional property values on the pass. If no matching additional property exists on the template, Passcreator creates it automatically.
  3. Use the Advanced Search and segments on the Passes page to analyze the success of your campaigns, for example to measure your best distribution channels.

By default, Passcreator accepts the standard utm parameters with any value.

  • utm_source
  • utm_medium
  • utm_campaign
  • utm_term
  • utm_content
  • utm_id
  • tag

Configuring the allow list

Per template you define exactly which parameters Passcreator accepts, and optionally which values.

  1. Go to Templates in the sidebar and open your template.
  2. Open the Distribution tab and find the Tracking Parameters Allow List panel. As long as you have configured no parameters, Passcreator accepts all standard utm parameters with any value.
  3. Add a parameter with its Parameter Name, for example utm_source. This also lets you track custom parameters outside the utm set.
  4. Optionally restrict the Allowed Values, one per line. Leave the field empty to accept any value for this parameter. The list then shows "Any value accepted".

Things to note

  • Passcreator tracks only the first access of a pass download page. If the first download had utm_source=googleads, that value stays even if someone later opens the same pass link with another value. Therefore create individual passes rather than distributing the same pass link for every click on an ad. Integration links are a good way to do this. The integration link generator carries tracking parameters through to the download page.
  • Additional properties that Passcreator creates automatically have the hidden flag set, so they don't show up as fields on forms.
  • You can delete the automatically created additional properties like any other property. If you do, you lose the tracking data.
