White labeling with vanity URLs and your own domain

By default, Passcreator serves pass download pages and forms from app.passcreator.com and sends emails from noreply@passcreator.com. With white labeling you use your own domain and your own sender address instead.

There are two flavors of white labeling.

  • End user facing. Your own domain for download pages and forms comes with the White Label Domain service, your own email sender address with the White Label Mail service. This article covers the domain part. For the email part see Your own sender address and SMTP.
  • Backend white labeling. This rebrands the Passcreator backend itself for your users or customers. See Backend white labeling and theming.

The setup has four steps.

Tell Passcreator which domains you want to use

You can use different domains for wallet passes and forms, or the same one for both. Send the domains you'd like to use to Passcreator support at support@passcreator.com, or request the White Label Domain service from the Subscription page.

Configure your DNS

Subdomains

You configure domains with a subdomain, for example my.example.com, as a regular CNAME record. Passcreator support tells you the CNAME target once you've sent your subdomain.

Zone apex and root domains

A domain without a subdomain, for example example.com, is a zone apex or root domain. DNS does not allow them to CNAME to another domain and requires an A record instead.

If you want to use a root domain, you need a DNS provider that emulates a CNAME for root domains. Such a provider creates an A record and keeps it pointing to the IP address of the target domain. Providers name this feature differently.

  • Cloudflare calls it ACNAME or CNAME flattening.
  • DNSimple calls it ALIAS.
  • DNS Made Easy calls it ANAME.

Add TXT records for SSL certificates

To issue SSL certificates for your domain, Passcreator needs TXT records in your DNS. Passcreator support provides the exact records after you've submitted your domain.

Activation

Once the DNS records are in place, Passcreator enables the vanity URLs for your account. From then on, all passes and forms use your own URLs.

Checking your vanity setup

After activation you see the configured Vanity URL and Vanity Email in each project's settings. Open Projects, open a project and go to its settings. If they show "Not active. Please contact support.", the service isn't enabled yet.
