Digital insurance cards for motor, travel and health insurance

Proof of motor insurance in the wallet, always up to date

The digital car insurance card arrives with the policy email or is offered in the customer portal via QR code. It shows the policy number, validity, plan and claims hotline. At the garage or a partner a quick scan is enough, and the card updates itself with every change to the policy. A link on the card takes policyholders straight to the customer portal, where they change their address or download documents themselves, without calling.

EUDI Wallet: identity verification at sign-up without video identification

With eIDAS 2.0, citizens in the EU get a government digital identity wallet, the EUDI Wallet. Customers use it to identify themselves when taking out a policy, without video identification. They then save the policy as a card in Apple Wallet or Google Wallet. Passcreator covers both.

    1. 01EUDI Wallet

Confirm identity with the EUDI Wallet

Customers identify themselves with one tap instead of a video call. The validity of the digital ID is checked automatically.

      Sign the policy digitally

The policy is concluded online with the verified data. The EUDI Wallet is a standard across the entire European Economic Area.

Frequently asked questions about the digital insurance card

What is a digital insurance card in the wallet?
A digital insurance card, also called a wallet pass, is a card that policyholders save in Apple Wallet, Google Wallet or Samsung Wallet on their phone. It shows, for example, the policy number, plan, validity and hotline, carries a QR code for verification and can be updated at any time. You also reach policyholders with push notifications on the lock screen.
Which cards can an insurer issue in the wallet?
Typical examples are proof of insurance for motor, health, travel, pet, sports and supplementary insurance, claim cards with claim number and status, emergency passes with hotline and contacts, PlusCards for extra benefits, membership cards and cards for brokers and agencies, such as digital business cards or partner vouchers. With Passcreator you design all of them in the same editor.
Do policyholders need to download an app?
No. Apple Wallet comes preinstalled on every iPhone, Google Wallet or Samsung Wallet on Android phones. Policyholders add the card with one tap from the policy email, a text message, the customer portal or via QR code. Because nothing needs to be installed, the barrier is much lower than with an insurance app of your own.
Does a wallet pass count as proof of insurance, for example for a car?
The card can carry the details proof of insurance requires, such as insurer, policy number, vehicle and validity, and it can be checked for authenticity via QR code. Whether and in what form digital proof is recognised in your market depends on local regulations. We are happy to discuss the requirements for your line of business in a call.
How does a claim card in the wallet work?
When a claim occurs, your system automatically issues a claim card or updates the insurance card. A tap on the card opens the claim form, and the other party can scan a QR code and receive their own card with all contact details. Every status change, from the garage to the payout, reaches policyholders as a push notification. Once the claim is settled, the claim card is voided automatically.
Can insurers send push notifications without their own app?
Yes. When you update a wallet pass, the policyholder can receive a notification on the lock screen, for example about a status change in a claim, about renewal or as a severe weather warning for a region. You send notifications manually, scheduled or automatically via the Workflow Engine or the API, and segment by plan, region or policy status.
How does the card get from the policy system into the wallet?
Your developers or integration partner connect the policy administration system, CRM or customer portal via the Passcreator REST API or webhooks. A card is then created automatically with every new policy and updated with every change. Without development work, it works via Zapier or a file import. Customer data stays in your systems.
What happens when a policy is changed, renewed or cancelled?
The card is updated, not reissued. New plans, terms or vehicles appear on the card automatically, and policyholders can receive a notification about it. When a policy expires, you can let the card expire, void it or add a note about the follow-up offer.
Do wallet passes work without an internet connection?
Yes. The card is stored on the phone, so the policy number, emergency number and QR code can be shown without mobile signal, for example abroad or in an underground car park. Updates and push notifications arrive as soon as the phone is back online.
Are wallet passes GDPR compliant and secure enough for insurance data?
Passcreator is ISO 27001 certified, GDPR compliant and hosted in the EU by a European provider. You decide which data appears on the card and which data is transferred to Passcreator. Sensitive content can be kept behind a link or a login. We provide the data processing agreement, technical and organisational measures and the list of subprocessors for your review.
What does the EUDI Wallet have to do with wallet passes?
The EUDI Wallet is the government identity wallet under eIDAS 2.0 that citizens use to identify themselves to companies. Customers use it to identify themselves when taking out a policy, for example instead of video identification. Apple Wallet and Google Wallet are the everyday wallets where the policy lives as a card. With the Passcreator EUDI Wallet Connector and wallet passes you cover both.
Can brokers and agencies issue their own cards?
Yes. Agencies and brokers distribute cards in your design with their own contact details, for example as a digital business card, service card or partner voucher. Several cards can be issued as a bundle with one download, up to ten cards at once.
How quickly can an insurer get started with wallet passes?
You design your first card today in the no-code editor and test it on your own phone. A standard integration with your policy system via the API goes live in weeks, not quarters. How long your setup takes depends on your systems. In a 15-minute call we look at your starting point together.
What does an insurer save with wallet passes?
Above all printing, postage and reprints: when a policy changes, a card is lost or a vehicle is replaced, the card is updated instead of sent again. On top of that come fewer calls to customer service, because policyholders see their policy number, hotline and the status of their claim right on the card and reach the customer portal via a link. How much that adds up to depends on your portfolio and processes. We are happy to work it out with you in a call.
How much do wallet passes for insurers cost?
You can start for free and test your first wallet pass right away. Paid plans are based on active cards, so you only pay for cards your policyholders have actually saved on their phones.
