Using passes on iPhone

Every iPhone comes with Apple Wallet, so saving a pass takes three taps. This page explains how pass holders save, find and restore passes. Share it or copy the steps into your own support pages.

Steps

Saving a pass

Apple Wallet is part of every iPhone, so the process is short.

  1. Open the link to the pass from an email, SMS, QR code or website. The download page recognizes the iPhone and shows an Add to Apple Wallet button.
  2. Tap the button. A preview of the pass opens.
  3. Tap Add in the upper right corner of the screen.

The pass is now on the phone. To use it, open the Wallet app and select the pass, for example to show its barcode at a store or venue.

Expired and archived passes

Once you void a pass or it expires, the iPhone moves it to the archive of the Wallet app. Archived passes are still active. They still receive updates and push notifications, and the holder can bring any archived pass back to the live section.

To show an expired pass, follow these steps.

  1. Open the Wallet app and scroll to the bottom of the stack of passes.
  2. Tap View expired passes.
  3. Select the pass and tap Show.

To retrieve an archived pass permanently, follow these steps.

  1. In the expired passes view, tap Edit at the top left.
  2. Select the pass you want to retrieve.
  3. Tap Unhide at the bottom right.

Notes for pass issuers

  • Passcreator's download pages know which iOS apps handle wallet passes and show helpful information when a holder uses such an app.
  • Passes that share the same certificate appear next to each other in the Wallet app and share their push notification icon.
  • If holders report that updates or notifications don't arrive, see Troubleshooting push notifications.
